A work that I don’t like and don’t think is good

Blarg. The Mona Lisa if DaVinci was colorblind and she looked like a man. There is really way too much green in this.  The fact that the right eye is half the size of the left just makes it the whole face seem really lopsided.  I also would like to know why there is a sideways lightning bolt going into her head.  The hands look like there are from a 3 toed sloth.

A work that I like, but suspect might not be good

Honestly I enjoy this work just for why its bad.  The random lobster, the thought bubble that really tells us nothing, half her hair being red and half blonde, the depressed and board look on the girls face (which seems to me to say that this isn’t the first time there’s been a random lobster on her table), the green outline on the lobster, and the table cloth that looks only half rendered all bring me a large smile when looking at this piece.

A work that I don’t like but have to admit is good

Hector and Andromanche by Giorgio de Chirico 1912

While the piece itself is good I find it to be creepy and unpleasant.  The shadows and colors work together to make the work interesting, but the subjects themselves take away from it with their strange poses and faces that seem to be looking both at you and away from you at the same time.  The lines on the heads while adding interest also cause the faces to appear to be crying.  This gives the viewer a sense of foreboding and uneasiness.  I also am creeped out by their feet.

Lass from Class by Rebecca Pugh    March 26, 2012

I really enjoy this work because it is out of the artist’s usual style and really showcases her skill.  This portrait displays her command for color and tones to create a warm and welcoming persona.  I really enjoy the rounded bottom edge on the portrait, I feel that it adds to the warm and welcoming feeling of the portrait.  I also like the detail on the facial expression, particularly the shadowing on the nose.  I also like the detail in the irises.  The hair is also done quite well so that it doesn’t look flat, but actually 3 dimensional.
